Maybe we were never supposed to cross each other’s paths. Our connection, our heartbeats, matched one another in our fairytale world, but in reality, society deemed us as an awful accident. I fell in love with a boy before our first kiss, and he fell for a girl who he wasn’t allowed to have. Our situation wasn’t the norm when it came to building a relationship. We didn’t know how to act with one another after our first kiss. This story has left its mark on me and it is one of my favorite books of the year. The Gravity of Us is a poignant look at the dynamics of family, the effect words have on our psyche, and the importance of being true to who you are. The slow-burning but fierce and protective love that develops throughout this story is both lovely and heartbreaking.Įverything from the prose to the pacing is perfection, the story is unique and heartbreaking, and the characters are layered and deep.

She is the bright light to his dark and moody shadows.īrittainy does such an amazing job bringing out every nuance between these characters. When Lucy meets Graham, they couldn’t be more opposite and I found the juxtaposition in their character quite comical. For being an author, Graham has no social graces, he doesn’t use his words well with others, and he’s gruff to the point of being mean. Graham didn’t grow up in a loving home and he has learned to turn off his feelings as a barrier against painful situations.

Graham is a reclusive author of multiple best-sellers who grew up in the shadow of a father who was also a critically acclaimed author. Lucy is always smiling, even when she truly isn’t happy, wears her heart on her sleeve, and is the glue that holds things together. She’s quirky and free-spirited, much to the chagrin of her older sisters. Lucille is the youngest of three girls and she is the most like her mother. Each book has been a unique and poetic look into relationships, hardships, families, and love.īrittainy Cherry cemented her place in my favorite authors list long before this book, but The Gravity of Us just gave me a reminder as to why I love her books. The Gravity of Us is the fourth and final book in the Elements series and I am sad to see it coming to an end.
